‘Tis the season…to be busy. Our site move is nearly complete, however, the things that we still have to do are the time consuming things that we just don’t have time for. So we decided to run with the site ‘as is’ and catch up over the months. Microsoft does it with its production releases so we think that this is good for us too!

Speaking of Microsoft, had an interesting discussion while at the water cooler on a job site. I ran into one of those zealots who hate everything that comes out of Redmond, even those not directly related to Microsoft. This guy was POed that they were getting a ‘downgrade’ to Exchange 2003. He went on and on about how bad it was, my simple response was “Isn’t that interesting that you feel that way. Can you provide me with a viable alternative before I complete this installation?” Needless to say he couldn’t.

I love open source, but as stated in the past, choose your poison wisely! I have a love hate relationship with Microsoft. Most people do. I must say that when my XP system crashed last week I absolutely hated them! Especially so since they didn’t provide a magic button that flashed me once a minute with “This document has not been saved. Would you like to do so now?” Microsoft didn’t write the app I was using, but it was their fault anyway. I loved them when all my Word documents where saved automatically. It only took a few minutes to go from love to hate to love again. I then lamented myself for being bone-headed.

Back to the topic, we also decided to give Mambo/Joomla a twirl with this version of Spearnet. It takes some getting used to. We have had some heavy handed hacking of the code base to get it mostly like we want but… so much more to do. There are alternatives and we are exploring those as well. We figured that this was an opportunity to expand on our base set of skills to better serve MORE clients, which is why companies exist in the first place.

On an adminstrative side note, if you had content that you had a direct link to, check your email. Those items are now on our test site, and the directories have changed to protect the innocent.
And with that, I welcome you to the new home of Spear Networks. Welcome aboard!
